Government proposes four-tier security mechanism for upcoming CA poll

The government has proposed a four-tier security mechanism for the upcoming Constituent Assembly (CA) election. The CA election is scheduled for November 19. The concerned government agencies briefed the Election Commission (EC) about the integrated security plan for the election.  Top officials of all four security agencies – Nepal Army (NA), Armed Police Force (APF), Nepal Police and National Investigation Department (NID) briefed the EC officials.

According to the proposal, the government will form a central security committee headed by the Home Minister. The five development regions will have regional security committees headed by chiefs of regional administration offices whereas district security committees will be headed by the chief district officers (CDOs).
The government is planning to deploy 62,000 Nepal Army personnel as backup force for the CA poll whereas 54,000 personnel from Nepal Police, 22,000 from the APF and 44,000 temporary police personnel will be used for security during the poll.
