UML wants diversity-based federalism

KATHMANDU, MAR 22 - CPN-UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal has said federalism based on diversity was the country's necessity instead of the federal states carved on the basis of lingual and ethnic identity.

At a an interaction programme among the UML lawmakers organised by party's central federalism affairs department here on Saturday, Khanal said the UML was ready to hold discussions to make five to nine provinces though the party has backed the seven-province model of federalism.

Chairman Khanal said that new constitution should be promulgated within a year to ensure socio-economic rights of the people.

Party senior leader Madhav Nepal, secretary Bishnu Poudel, leaders Bharatmohan Adhikari, Keshav Badal, Siddhilal Singh, Parshuram Meghi Gurung, Agni Kharel and others are scheduled to deliver their opinions on federalism. RSS
